Game Time: 2048!

If you will going to inspect all the phones (Android or iOS) of all the person you know, I’m sure there is one game that is common to all. Not Angry Bird nor Flappy Bird. The newest breakthrough game that made the town addicted is the ‘2048’.

2048 is the game. This simply, mind-boggling, addicting game was spreading like an infectious virus.

2048 is a single-player puzzle created in March 2014 by 19-year-old Italian web developer Gabriele Cirulli, in which the objective is to slide numbered tiles on a grid to combine them and create a tile with the number 2048. He released a free app version of the game for iOS and Android in May 2014.

The game rules is simple as it looks. Slide to side, up or down. It is a puzzle game in  a 4×4 grid with numbered tiles. Your goal is to combine the tiles with the same number until you reach 2048. And you can continue until 4096 and if possible 8192. (I have friends who have already reached 4096.)  This game is not easy as it looks. It requires smart strategies in order  for you to continue the game.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2048_(video_game)

As it gains its popularity, there are issues and controversies arising about the said game. One is that it is a rip-off from another game ‘Threes’. The Most Popular iPhone Game Is Just A Shameless Ripoff.

Amidst the issues, 2048 continues to rise and reach the top. As a matter of fact it was compared to ‘Flappy Bird’ which went viral also (was featured on my 7th blog post: Flappy That Drives You Crazy!)

2048 Game the Next Flappy Bird? Addictive Game Skyrockets in Popularity

An evidence of sweet success is that 2048 was one of the top free games downloaded on Google Play and on App Store.

Personally, myself was not a fan of any number games like this one. I found it time-consuming. You can’t find this game on my phone, but I already played it from my friend’s device. Undeniably it has this addicting feeling that once you dived in, all you want to do is to go deeper and deeper. Until now, I haven’t reached 2048, but it is a work in progress. I am not still going to download the game but, for sure I will continue my mission to reach 2048. (Still, on my friend’s phone.)
